Camo Contreras — tattoo artist at work
— ABOUT —
Camo Contreras
Beginning his career in Santiago, Chile. Three years working in New York City, and now traveling the world as a guest artist — tattooing under the Soulmate Tattoo brand. A practice rooted in realism and surrealism, in both black and grey and color.

My work is about taking my client's idea and shaping it into something unique — blending their vision with my art to reach the piece we're both looking for.

Let's make art together.
Every tattoo is a soulmate you wear for life.

Preparation & aftercare
What I do myself and what the best artists in the world recommend. Following this guide is the difference between a tattoo that looks good for a month and one that looks perfect for years.
— I —
Before the session
The days before
  • Moisturize your skin — start 3–5 days before by applying unscented moisturizer twice a day. Hydrated skin takes ink better and hurts less.
  • Drink water — at least 2 liters the day before. Dehydrated skin bleeds more.
  • Sleep 7–8 hours the night before. A rested body tolerates long sessions better.
  • Eat well 1–2 hours before — a full meal with protein and carbs. Never come on an empty stomach.
  • Shave the area 12 hours before with a new razor. No depilatory cream, no wax. If you're not sure, leave it to me.
  • NO alcohol or drugs 24 hours before — they affect clotting and healing.
  • NO aspirin or ibuprofen 48 hours before — they're blood thinners.
  • NO sun exposure on the area to be tattooed — burned or very tanned skin can't be tattooed properly.
  • Comfortable, loose clothing — that gives easy access to the area and won't get stained.
  • Arrive calm — go to the bathroom, bring water and something sweet in case your blood sugar drops.

After the session
The first weeks
first 4 hours
  • Keep the film or second-skin on for the exact time I tell you at the end of the session.
  • Don't touch the area with dirty hands.
days 1 to 3
  • Wash 2–3 times a day with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap. Clean hands.
  • Dry by patting with disposable paper towel — never rub or use a cloth towel.
  • Apply a very thin layer of the balm I recommend (Hustle Butter, Bepanthol, or whatever I tell you based on your skin) 3–4 times a day.
  • Short showers. NO bathtub, pool, ocean, sauna or jacuzzi.
weeks 1 to 3
  • It will itch and peel — DON'T scratch. DON'T pull at the scabs. If you tear off skin, you take ink with it.
  • Keep the tattoo moisturized with unscented cream. When it itches a lot, gently pat it.
  • Soft, loose clothing that doesn't rub against the area.
  • Avoid intense exercise the first 7 days — sweat irritates.
forever
  • SPF 50+ sunscreen on the tattoo whenever it's in the sun — for life. The sun is the number one enemy of tattoos.
  • Moisturize your skin regularly. A hydrated tattoo looks crisp years later.
  • If you notice anything strange (redness past day 3, swelling, fever) — message me right away.
Any questions — message me.
I'll help you prepare and we'll work out the details together before your session. Preparation is part of the work.
